Social media is a powerful platform for communication, with widespread reach all over the world, and even in remote areas. It is a big part of the ongoing digital revolution and digital transformation, which has influenced businesses, made the world more accessible and revolutionized the way we communicate and connect.
Digital transformation is becoming a widespread movement across all industries and the construction industry is no different. Albeit slower than most industries, companies are starting to realize the need to adapt to the accelerating pace of digitization and modernization.
In order to catch up with and maximize social media’s ceaseless growth, digital marketing, technology, and digital communication, Vision Properties Development Corporation (Vision) held its own Social Media Week to help its employees navigate through different social media as a responsible Kabalikat.

Kabalikat Kate Docong, a Site Procurement Officer, shared that it was her first time using Linkedin but it will definitely not be the last. She has learned a lot from the sessions and sees the importance of being a responsible social media user. Her advice to her fellow Kabalikat is to “As always, think before you post. Just take [in] the positive and ignore the negative vibes.”
While Kabalikat Nel Busa, a Project Engineer, shares that
“in this time of the millennial era, sometimes, we become more open and liberal to what we have posted on social media, and sometimes, we forget to consider our own privacy.”
Throughout the learning sessions, the word “Respect” resonated with him, which to him means to “respect not only to other people but also to myself. If they respect you, respect them. If they disrespect you, still respect them. Do not allow the actions of others to decrease your good manners, because you represent yourself not others.” He also adds that “at the end of the day, life is short, so we need to respect each other through our skills -- reading, speaking, communicating and writing.”
In a professional setting, relationship-building through social media helps create opportunities for individuals to collaborate, idea share, get feedback, and reduce stress through social support – and even pave a way for employees to become Vision’s own brand ambassadors.
The week-long event was composed of two webinars on Guide to Social Media Communication, and Email Etiquette, and daily social media challenges.
